One of the most challenging words Jesus ever spoke was when He said, “Follow Me.” Scripture tells us just how challenging it was for some, showing how one man answered saying he had to bury his father first, another desired to go tell his family farewell before he could follow, and still another went away sad, and would not leave his wealth to go with Jesus. Each one of us will at one time or another have something in our life that will seem so important that it will cloud the beauty of God’s invitation. We are challenged only because we don’t understand that the offer is not one that is based on our terms but on His! We can’t expect to follow Christ just to see what He will do next, or because we want to see a sign from Him. When one decides to follow Jesus he or she must do so acknowledging that He alone, is the Lord!
And yet, “Follow Me,” comes with the gentle reminder that He has already gone before us! And He will prepare a place for us! A reminder, that where He is we will be also! A call that says He loves you and has truly demonstrated that love by giving His life for us all! Don’t hesitate, take that step of faith and follow Him! Don’t be afraid while on the journey! You needn’t worry, for while we don’t know what tomorrow will bring, we do know that He will be there! The call to follow Jesus, by faith, as the Son of God, is the most rewarding thing we could or will ever do!
